Restroom configurations in all UHDS residence halls include all-user restrooms as well as men’s and women’s restrooms.

  • This aligns with a campus-wide effort to increase the accessibility of all-user restrooms and facilities throughout university buildings.
  • Students have requested this option within residence halls, stating it is an essential amenity to support their needs while living on campus.
  • In addition, inclusion of all of our residents is a top priority for UHDS and aligns with Oregon State University’s institutional values, its commitment to inclusive excellence, social justice, diversity of all kinds and the safety of all people. Restroom options are a continuation of the work UHDS has led to increase access in OSU living and learning environments.
  • Students can continue to use the restroom that fits their needs, regardless of what floor or wing they reside in.

 Frequently Asked Questions

1. What restroom options do you offer?

OSU residence halls have a variety of restroom options. There are men's and women's restrooms as well as all-user restrooms in each hall (a minimum of two per building).

2. What is an all-user restroom?

An all-user restroom is a restroom that any person is welcome to use. All-user restrooms do not use gender to designate their use.

3. Why do you offer three restroom options?

In alignment with OSU's institutional values, UHDS strives to create programs and services that meet the needs of all of our residents. Most importantly, there are also a growing number of requests from students for restroom options not designated by gender. These expanded options serve the current needs of our residents and continue our effort to create supportive on-campus living environments.

4. How does this impact suite-style restrooms?

Students living in suite-style rooms share a restroom with one (or two) roommates and two (or three) suitemates. There are no changes planned for suite-style restrooms.

5. What if I want to move rooms or be on another floor?

Students must submit a pre-occupancy room change request over the summer, or submit a standard room change request once they move in to be placed on a waitlist. While we do not guarantee any room changes, we work with students over the summer and during fall term in an ongoing effort to accommodate room change requests.

6. How can I see what restrooms are on my floor?

A student can see the restroom list online under the specific hall page. Anyone needing additional assistance can contact our office.

7. Will I be forced or required to use any specific restroom?

No resident is required or expected to use any particular restroom. Residents may choose to use the restrooms that fit their needs, regardless of what floor or wing they reside in.

8. What if the restroom type I want to use is not on my floor?

Students can use any restroom in their residence hall, on any floor or wing. A complete list of restrooms is available online on each specific hall page or by emailing our office.

9. What do restroom facilities look like in a UHDS residence hall?

Most residential floors have at least two multi-stall restroom facilities. Restroom facilities feature a set of common sinks, private toilets with lockable doors and private shower stalls with lockable doors and shower curtains. Shower areas also include a drying/changing area that varies by building.

10. How can I learn more about the restroom options?

Please contact UHDS by calling 541-737-4771 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) and we will connect you with a member of the leadership team.
